Background

The Under the Wings art series by Akiva Segan, underway since 1991, portrays murdered victims of the Nazis and Fascists in Europe, 1933-45. The artworks, at exhibits, in power-point presentations by the artist, and online, offer audiences a restoration of dignity in memory of the victims.

As of December 2018, the Under the Wings series has 69 works completed, including 10 monumental mosaic-drawing combos. Over forty of the drawings are framed and exhibit ready, and each of the mosaic-drawing combos are exhibit-ready and available. Two other Wings series drawings, each begun in 1997, are each in-progress, summer 2018.

All of the Under the Wings and the Sight-seeing with Dignity art series works are available for exhibits, installations and tolerance education programs.

For the benefit of art students and art instructors who might find them of interest I’ve included some photos taken when artworks were in-progress, showing the progression of stages of some of the drawings and/or the mosaic sections.
